Karl Joos wurde am 17. Januar 1895 in Fleinheim geboren. Während des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde er als Grenadier in der 4. Kompanie des Grenadiers-Regiments 123 eingesetzt. Im Oktober 1914 wurde er leicht verwundet, konnte jedoch wieder an die Front zurückkehren. Später geriet er in englische Kriegsgefangenschaft. Wahrscheinlich erhielt fälschlicherweise die Mutter Joos' bereits während dieser Zeit im Mai 1918 eine Todesbenachrichtigung durch den Kampanieführer. Joos verstarb allerdings am 2. November 1918 wenige Tage vor dem Waffenstillstand von Compiégne, mit dem die Kampfhandlungen zwischen dem Deutschen Reich und den Westmächten Frankreich und Großbritannien eingestellt wurden, in englischer Kriegsgefangenschaft.
Erstbestattet wurde er auf dem Fordington Cemetery in Dorset. 1963 wurde er umgebettet auf die Kriegsgräberstätte Cannock Chase in Block 12, Reihe 6, Grab 206.
