Helmut Wolf has not yet been transferred to a military cemetery set up by the Volksbund.

The Volksbund is endeavouring to find the graves of German soldiers and give them permanent resting places, on the basis of war graves agreements. We hope that, in the not too distant future, we will find the grave of Helmut Wolf and be able to transfer his remains to a military cemetery.

Short Biography

Helmut Wolf ist am 29.01.1925 in Kälbertshausen, Kreis Mosbach, geboren und war der jüngere Bruder von Käthe Helm, geb. Wolf, die Kontakt zu verschiedenen Soldaten und die Moral an der Front aufrecht hielt.

Als Gefreiter der Infanterie-Nachrichten-Kompanie 42 war er, nach Angabe der Feldpostbriefe, in Russland und "im Osten" stationiert. Als sein letzter bekannter Truppenteil gilt das 5. Grenadiers-Regiment 545. Weitere Informationen über seine militärische Laufbahn sind nicht bekannt.

Während seiner Zeit im Krieg schrieb er mehrmals seiner Schwester Käthe, die für ihn ihre Eltern grüßen sollte. In einem Brief von Oktober 1943 schreibt Helmut, dass er wenig Zeit zum Briefe schreiben und beantworten hätte. Auch in seinem letzten überlieferten Brief an Käthe vom 14.05.1944 schreibt er kurz seinen Dank, die besten Grüße an seine Schwester und seine Eltern und meint, dass es dauern kann, bis er sich wieder meldet. Helmut Wolf erlag wenig später am 23.07.1944 im Lazarett in San. St. Rositten II. / 1.K. T. A. 601 im Kreis Rezekne seinen Schussverletzungen.

Helmut Wolf ist noch nicht auf einen vom Volksbund errichteten Soldatenfriedhof überführt worden und sein derzeitiges Grab befindet sich bei Rezekne in Lettland. Er ist jedoch dem Soldatenfriedhof Riga-Beberbeki zugeordnet und im Gedenkbuch des Friedhofs verzeichnet.
