Almost 75 years after the end of the fierce Battle of Stalingrad, thousands of families still have no clue as to the whereabouts of their relatives of whom all trace was lost in 1942/43 between the Don and the Volga. To create a place of personal remembrance for these people nevertheless, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriebsgräberfürsorge has recorded the personal details of the men who went missing at Stalingrad at the military cemetery in Rossoschka near Volgograd. 103,234 names are engraved in alphabetical order on 107 granite blocks with an edge length of 1.50 m and a height of 1.35 metres.
