Volksbund, which is almost two-thirds financed by donations, today looks after 832 war gravesites in 46 countries with about 2.8 million war dead. It preserves the memory of the war dead by establishing and maintaining the cemeteries. The huge cemeteries remind the living of the past and confront them with the consequences of war and violence.
As the only war graves service in the world, it runs its own school and extracurricular youth work as well as its own youth meeting and education centres.
